THREE THINGS TO REMEMBER

Jump to a section

01

Choose by task; you do not need all ten

These are ten useful tools, not ten compulsory registrations. Alipay and WeChat overlap, while Google and Apple translation can be alternatives. If SACTOUR has arranged a transfer, do not book another car for the same journey.

Choose a familiar combination and allow time for verification, language settings and downloads. App names, functions and store availability change. Finding a route or saving a hotel is not the same as completing a payment or confirmed booking.

AppMain taskWho needs it
AlipayMerchant payments and selected local or transport servicesA useful primary payment option

02

Set up payments and communication separately

Alipay provides merchant-payment access; WeChat adds local communication, Weixin Pay and mini programs. Register through current official flows and link an eligible card in your own name. Not every merchant, mini program or function accepts every international card.

Keep your registered number accessible. Use identity documents, payment passwords and verification codes only within the official process, never in a message to a driver or unsolicited support account. Save the correct hotel and planner contacts; a matching avatar or display name is not proof of identity.

Amap and DiDi: check the entrance as well as the destination

Amap offers multilingual mapping and visitor services. Save the Chinese hotel name, complete address and actual entrance before planning a route. Translated labels help, but similar station names, hotel branches and different attraction gates still require attention.

For an independent ride, use the official DiDi China product serving your mainland journey. Check pickup point, vehicle category, estimate and payment method. Airports and large stations may have designated pickup areas; a short straight-line distance is not necessarily an accessible meeting point. Match the plate to the order before boarding and reject requests for an off-platform “unlock” fee.

12306 and Trip.com: look for a confirmed record

China Railway 12306 is the official rail channel. Eligible foreign-passport users can register through its English platform and complete account activation and identity verification. Follow railway instructions for the name and document details rather than using a convenient nickname.

Trip.com can help manage independent bookings. Check dates, room or fare type, passenger names, cancellation conditions and the actual provider. Compare purchases with your SACTOUR arrangements to avoid duplicates. A marketplace listing is not evidence that the marketplace is an attraction’s or railway’s official channel; charges and support processes can differ.

  1. Decide who is buying

Separate services arranged by SACTOUR from those you will purchase independently.

  2. Check the actual status

Distinguish confirmed, awaiting issue, waitlisted and payment pending. Keep the order reference and confirmation.

  3. Review before departure

Check dates, station or airport, names, documents, baggage and change rules, rather than keeping only a search screenshot.

Translation and dictionaries solve different problems

Google Translate and Apple Translate help with supported language pairs. For offline use, download input and output languages and test in airplane mode. Text, camera, speech and conversation may have different offline support; a completed download is not proof that every feature works without data.

Pleco supplements this with Chinese-English word and character lookup rather than human interpretation. Prepare accurate written information for allergies, medical needs or complex booking conditions and ask the relevant person to confirm it, instead of depending on one machine-generated sentence.

  • Use short sentences and one question at a time.
  • Save the Chinese address you can show when saying “I am staying here”.
  • Check camera, microphone, dictionary purchases and other permissions or charges before using them.

A metro route is not a ticket

MetroMan provides metro-network and interchange information. Update the relevant data and check the available city, language and version features. Follow operator signage and temporary notices on the journey; a route result in a planning app is not a fare entitlement.

Payment and communication apps may provide local-service mini programs. Activate only what you need instead of opening every service at once. Reviews and merchant promotions are starting points, not guarantees of opening, reservations, payment acceptance, seating or dietary suitability. Confirm those details with the business.

Two more official tools tied to your actual bookings

Entry information: if an arrival card is required, use the official NIA website, NIA 12367 app or official mini-program. Official online filing is free; there is no need to install an unknown app or use a paid advertising link to complete it. An arrival card is separate from a visa, entry eligibility and hotel registration.

Flight information: use the official app or website of the airline operating your flight. Save your booking reference and check terminals, baggage and changes. For an agency-issued ticket, amendments or refunds may need to go through the original issuing channel. Airline features differ, so do not rely on a single push notification.

Run through one real journey before departure

Join the essentials together: find your hotel, recognise its Chinese address, prepare a payment method and know where the confirmed booking lives. Give companions their own concise information so the whole party does not depend on one phone.

Online availability varies by network and region. Arrange data and a second contact method. If a phone is lost, use official channels promptly to manage the SIM and payment accounts rather than leaving signed-in services exposed.

  1. Download and sign in

Use official channels, complete necessary verification and check your registered number and account-recovery options.

  2. Test and download

Save addresses and confirmations, download supported language or route data, then check them with the connection off.

  3. Review permissions and spending

Allow only needed access and read subscriptions, service fees and the final total. A free installation does not make every service free.

Q & A

A few useful questions

Do I need to install all ten apps?

No. Start with payment, maps, communication and language, then add rail, ride and booking tools for the services you will manage. Translation tools can be alternatives, and existing arrangements do not need duplicate purchases.

Will every mini program work once I have WeChat?

No. Individual services can have their own account, phone, identity, payment and regional requirements. Working chat or payment does not activate every third-party service.

Can I travel if I am not confident with apps?

Discuss hotels, transport and reservations in advance and choose a suitable level of independent time. Keep usable contacts, a Chinese hotel address, payment backups and a short paper plan for practical communication.
